A 120 Year Old Craftsman in Southwest Portland

June 8, 2026

Living room of a remodeled 120 year old Craftsman with a marble fireplace, tile hearth, stained wood beams, and a raised vaulted ceiling in Southwest Portland, OR

This Southwest Portland home is more than 120 years old, and the remodel reached nearly every room. The work ran from the roofline down to the new baseboards: a raised ceiling, a rebuilt fireplace, new engineered hardwood, a reimagined kitchen, and two full bathrooms.

Raising the ceiling

The biggest move was overhead. We rebuilt the roof so we could raise the ceiling, which opened the main living space and let the vault and beams show. We wrapped and stained the beams so they read as warm wood against the white. The original fireplace was repaired and framed out, then finished in a plaster style product with a tile surround and a tile hearth, with a sconce on each side.

New floors throughout

New engineered hardwood runs through the whole house, wide plank, set in a full spread of adhesive so the floor stays flat and quiet underfoot for the long haul. New baseboards finish every room to the same clean line.

The kitchen

We reimagined the kitchen completely. A very large island anchors it, wrapped in white shaker cabinetry with an undermount sink and quartz counters. Stainless steel appliances and gold hardware set the tone, and a cloe tile backsplash runs behind the range.

The primary bathroom

The primary bathroom got a double sink vanity with a quartz counter and gold finishes. Real marble tile lines the shower behind frameless glass, with a custom niche cut into the stone. Dark tile on the floor grounds the light marble and keeps the room from reading too bright.

The downstairs bath

Downstairs, a new bathtub sits under white straight set wall tile with a custom niche and gold fixtures. The floor is tile, and the vanity carries a quartz counter and a quartz backsplash, with gold finishes to match the fixtures upstairs.

A house this old always hides a few surprises once the walls open, and our crews worked through each one with care. What the clients got back is a Craftsman with a century of history behind it, finished to the standard of a home built today.
